Animal and Floral Designs

These pieces reflect my lifelong love for animals and nature.  Included among a diverse array of animals, birds, insects, and marine life are a few special collections.

Elephants:  Inspired by the elephants of the Oregon Zoo, where I once volunteered and taught summer camp, are these adorable elephant bracelets with floral motifs.  Most noteworthy of the Oregon Zoo's elephants was Packy, the first elephant successfully born and raised in an American zoo and the 2012 Grand Marshall of the Portland Rose Festival's Grand Floral Parade.  His legacy inspired all the elephant bracelets adorned with roses.  Also a star in 2012 was a baby elephant named Lily, the inspiration for the elephant bracelets adorned with lilies.  The bamboo motif on some elephant bracelets celebrates the jungle ancestry of these Asian elephants.

Owls:  Cute and wise, and available in a dazzling array of colors, I wish I could say I had a personal connection to these owls.  Alas, I neither studied them nor participated in activism to protect them, but I do find them beautiful and love their connection to Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, warcraft, and handicrafts.

"UNLESS":  Years ago, the Lorax (given voice by the immortal Dr. Seuss) warned us that "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to change.  It's not."  His message resonates as threats to our environment continue through pollution, habitat loss, irresponsible use of chemical agents, and climate change.  These bracelets feature vulnerable animals and habitats because no animal can live without its habitat.  To help those of us who care "a whole awful lot" to change things and protect these animals and their habitats, 10% of the proceeds from "UNLESS" and other animal-themed bracelets will be donated to a global conservation organization which protects wildlife around the world through research, education, and habitat protection.
